Winter Reads
If you’re a mood reader like me, then you understand the need to have a cozy read January to March. You need something light and refreshing April and May, then a great summertime/beach read June to August before settling back into a cozy read September to November and a holiday read in December. Well for January, I have some great suggestions that are all found at the bookstore!
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Set in Minnesota, this book features those frosty nights that make you want to curl up under a heated blanket with a hat on, à la The Holiday style. Add in some wolves, fighting against the cold, and lush woods, you’re in for a treat if you haven’t read this book yet!
A Tune to Make Them Follow by T.A. Lawrence
This is a great fantasy book to snuggle up with in bed. It’s a retelling of the Pied Piper tale and though it’s the second book in the Severed Realms series, it is a great standalone. Piper’s trek through snowy woods encounters forest faeries and needing a warm body to heat herself up against.
Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber
Once Evangeline travels to The North, readers are thrust into a world of wintery magic, vampires, and just all around good fairytale vibes. I picture the Northern Water Tribe from Avatar mixed with towns in Switzerland and all of that would be great…if it wasn’t so cold.
House of Lies and Sorrow by Emily Blackwood
Frigid, winter woods start off this book before the character is whisked away to the land of the fae. Impending doom lurks over Jade’s head unless she can figure out a way out of her new life.
Curse of Shadows and Thorns by L.J. Andrews
What do you get when you combine Vikings with fairytales? This book of course! Sprinkle in some cold weather, furs to keep warm, and being a fugitive on the run and you can’t get much cozier than this title first in The Broken Kingdoms series.
