Last Minute Gift Ideas for a Book Lover

If you’re still shopping for a Christmas gift this late in the game…well, you have some limited options. Shipping something today won’t have it there by Christmas unless you pay exorbitant fees so you can’t do too much online shopping. But that’s okay! There are still some great options that readers will really enjoy. Whether it is making something yourself, or scouring the stores for that perfect find, here are three suggestions to give you a good start:

Purchase a Gift Card

Some people might say gift cards are impersonal, but I absolutely love getting one. You not only gift the reader a present, but also a shopping experience where they get the joy of picking something out that they’re going to enjoy. For book people, this is actually a great gift because they get to go book hunting and that is certainly one of our favorite past times. I would recommend a gift card from The Reading Chamber (wink, wink), Barnes & Noble, or an independent bookstore local to them. Since gift cards are mostly online now, you can do an instant purchase and either print it out to wrap it up yourself or you can have it emailed to the recipient!

Make Some Bookmarks

One thing about book people is that we never have enough bookmarks. My collection tends to get used up if I’m in the mood for multiple books at once and the occasional bookmark goes missing. If you’re crafty and love making homemade gifts for friends and family, I recommend creating some fun bookmarks! There are so many online resources for this, but I would recommend this YouTube video or browsing Pinterest. You can find materials at your local craft store like Michael’s!

Put Together a Book Box

Reading can be an experience, so get some items to put together a gift box/basket that is sure to delight every reader. Some things to add to this basket are:

  • A journal

  • Their favorite tea, coffee, or other drink they enjoy

  • A cozy blanket

  • Some reading tabs

  • A face mask or other self-care item

This is pretty easy to put together and it’s sure to make for a fun present. If you' know the reader well, pick up a copy of a book you think they’d enjoy. Otherwise, no book is just fine for this gift.

These ideas may seem pretty simple, but sometimes that’s the key to a reader’s heart. Happy Holidays!
